Call a user to remind them to check their messages
Users can enable a toggle that makes them available to ring. Then their friends are able to tap their profile and "ring" them: play a ringtone on their phone. The ringtone reminds the person to check their Discord messages for something important. (E.g. an impromptu invite to play a game)
This feature would be good for users who aren't always on their phones or have notification sounds disabled. That way they don't have to check their messages all the time to see if somebody decides to hang out suddenly. Otherwise, they would miss the message and check too late.
Example: friend says let's play later today, but you guys don't know when you want to play. You both enable the ringtone. When your friend decides he wants to play, he sends you a message but you miss it as you have your phone in the other room. You said it's okay to ring you, so he rings you. You hear the ringtone, check your messages, and say: "Let's hang out!" or "I can't right now, how about later?"
Perfect for if Discord friends don't have each other's phone numbers or can't call due to distance. And it won't be disruptive to ring a user as they must have the option enabled at the time and only friends are allowed to ring them. This ring feature can be disabled by the phone's Do Not Disturb function, just like phone calls.

While I don't think a feature exactly like this would work, I think a priority messages type feature would be quite cool - perhaps receiving different notification sounds (if iOS and Android support it) from these people. Mark all your close friends as priority, and you'd know when they messaged you. This is slightly different to what you suggested but I think it'd accomplish a similar thing if the notification sounds are possible.
