Threads are overengineered

+1. Having to title a thread adds unnecessary friction. i've seen on numerous occasions that people think that the "title" is just their reply, and then because its the title it ironically gets lost and isn't included in the actual thread.

That's a very good point. I even did that the first (couple?) times I tried Discord's threads. Even though I noticed and fixed it quickly, not everyone is going to be as "computer aware" as myself. Instead now, when I create a thread, since the title is required and 99% of the time unjustified, my only option is to fill it in with something to the effect of "THIS IS A *explicative* TITLE" - which again, just pollutes the side channel bar.

Also, why isn't there an option to not send a message to the chat, why do we have to alert everyone that we have started a new thread? The whole point of a thread is so that we don't ping everyone to talk about a topic in the past... seems redundant

Right?! I feel like this is a combination of not invented here syndrome combined with/or overreaching to justify features for discord nitro.

(That last jab is aimed at an assumption made about how private threads work - I would guess they don't announce to the channel? And probably other features too. I don't have nitro and don't really have any intention to pay a company that so deliberately misses the mark on requested features.)
