Make preview of last message in threads optional
Showing the last message of a thread in the main channel isn't really helpful to anyone who isn't already involved in that thread, and it limits what threads can be used for. Nobody who hasn't already been following the thread is going to find an out-of-context message useful, and even people who are following the thread will just click into it because there's a chance they've missed other messages. And because of this feature, threads can't hide things like spoiler discussions because it surfaces the message for everyone to see, which defeats the entire purpose.

YES PLEASE.
I'm currently trying to organize a book club with a large number of people which I expect to be on various chapters at any given time. My idea was to have a book-club channel with a thread for each chapter so that people can go to the thread corresponding to the chapter they're on and discuss without having to worry about spoiling or being spoiled.
NOPE! Thread previews completely ruin this idea.2 -
Well gee, I thought I was the only one. This is much needed. For my guild, we mainly only use threads to discuss things of a spoiler like nature to avoid long stretches of conversation where the only thing you see are blocks of text in spoiler tags.
Having the last message be visible completely defeats the purpose of that for anyone skimming the main channel. You can keep the box, just eliminate the last message text!
As a work around, I just realized you can delete the message the thread was created off and people can access the thread from other methods to view a thread but it's not a great solution.
