Difficulty figuring how to use this system as a visitor

I have no need for a personal server.  A personal maid, yes; a server, no.

I have joined (?) Steve Hofstetter's server.  There is so much info on the page that is seemingly randomly placed.  

Don't know if that's because of your end or the person who designed Steve's site.

I've been using computers longer that Steve has been alive and I can't easily figure out how it all works.
