(PSA) why you need to use Discord in the web app vs the desktop app
I know the title may sound ridiculous, but trust me the Discord desktop app is spyware. Yes I know that sounds crazy but trust me, Discord is just like Facebook and Google. When you use the Desktop app, Discord collects a ton of information about your system and scans for running programs every 5 seconds which is a huge invasion of privacy. A YouTuber by the name of Techlore recently made a video called the dark side of Discord where he exposed Discord's massive data collection and so on. Most people don't even realize the fact that every time you click on something, Discord logs that event permanently. Even if you tell them not to track you in the settings, they still do it regardless. So you may wonder, how do I protect my privacy on Discord?
The answer to that would be to use the website version, but that's only half the problem, you see Discord logs everything you do in their app/website which is why you need to install the Chrome/Firefox extension called uBlock Origin. What uBO will do is it will block the API request that logs your activity on their service. Most people already use uBO so I won't go more into that.
Now that you're (hopefully) using Discord in the browser version with uBO, you're all good. The browser version has all of the same great features you know and love. The only difference is Discord won't be able to track you.
