Notifications for people only in one channel/specific role

Hi all, new to Discord and setting up a server so apologies if this is an obvious thing to do but I was not sure. In my server there is a general text channel but we found it was getting too spammed with details about a specific game that not everybody plays so we made a separate text channel specific to that game for those interested to talk about however I think it will still notify anyone else in the server when anyone is posting in it and keep pinging them so I want to make it so that only those people in the new specific game channel are notified (if people want to join it we can add them to it).

What is the best way to do this? Just make it private and only select certain people to view it / add new people when needed or make a cosmetic role for those who want to be in it/add that role to new people who want to be in it and set the channel to only be viewed by that role?

Or is there another solution or would the above not work? Let me know your thoughts on what you think works best.
