Can I Still Play Games In The Nitro Library?
As we detailed in a previous announcement, the Nitro games library is no longer accessible to any and all Nitro subscribers as of October 15th, 2019. Any games in the library won't be available for play going forward, even if you previously installed them.
The Nitro games library functioned in a way that's similar to other streaming library services such as Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass, Spotify, and Netflix. Subscribers had access to the games in the library while they were available and could install them at any point in time. Now that the library no longer exists, the games aren't available anymore, and you sadly won't be able to play them going forward.
Games you installed will still have a Play option next to them. If they were games you installed through the Nitro library, you may run into an error if you haven't purchased these games from another marketplace. You can learn how to manage unplayable games below.
What Happens to My Games?
We don't like manipulating the files on your computer without your permission. And, we know your save data and other game files are super important. With that in mind, none of the games are being uninstalled from your computer.
Even with the games library removed, any games from the Nitro collection that you previously installed will still be on your hard drive in the same location you installed them. This means that you can backup and preserve any of the files which were included with those games, including your save data. If you've purchased these games from another service, the save data should be compatible, though you'd want to ask the specific game's developer for info on how to migrate it!
Once your data is backed up, you can feel free to delete these unplayable games from the Library tab. Right click the game you wish to uninstall and select the Uninstall button. You can also use the Hide Game from Library button to remove the game's listing from your Library tab if you so choose.
Keep in mind that you won't be able to launch any of these games from within the Library tab unless you purchase them from another marketplace. The majority of games downloaded from the Nitro library will require authorization from Discord before being launched, and their removal from the library will result in an error if you attempt to play them.
Note: Some games will launch directly from their executable file, even after being removed from the library. Enabling DRM protections on Nitro games was a developer choice, and while we can't support or update titles that have been removed from the library, be aware that some games may continue to work.
What About Purchased Games? And Game Perks?
Games you bought through the retired Store tab or through server commerce aren't going away. The removal of the Nitro games library only applies to games you downloaded through the Nitro library. If you purchased a game on Discord, be it through our old Store or through a developer's server, that game is yours forever.
Similarly, Nitro Game Perks aren't going anywhere either! In the Nitro tab, you'll have a peek at all of the Game Perks available through your Nitro subscription, and many of the games with perks are available for download directly through those games' servers. If you want to know more about Nitro Game Perks, check out the article we linked above!
2073 Error??
When attempting to play or install a game that you had added to your library from the Nitro game collection, you may see a 2073 error.
This error means that you no longer have an entitlement to play the title in question.
If you see a 2073 error on a game that was part of Nitro, that means the game had DRM enabled and won't be playable anymore, so we would recommend uninstalling the game in question.
If you see a 2073 error on a game that you purchased (outside of Nitro), that's something our support team can help with! You can reach out to the support team here.
What's Next for Nitro?
We're going to double-down on making sure that Nitro lets you get more out of the people you talk to, the servers you hang out in, and the games you play on Discord. When we announced the removal of the Nitro library, we also announced a few new features for Nitro subscribers with more to come.
- First, Nitro subscribers now have a max file upload size of 100 MB, up from the previous 50 MB limit.
- Second, your server boosts are now more influential. Servers require less boosts to get higher tier perks, so you can use your Nitro subscription to make your communities better more quickly than ever.
If you're a legacy Nitro subscriber, you'll have access to any and all perks we add to Nitro at the original grandfathered price for as long as your legacy subscription lasts. You can learn more here.
We'll be announcing more changes in the future, so please keep an eye on our blog and update logs for more!
Note: The last day to request a refund for your most recent Nitro renewal because of the removal of the Nitro games library is 10/19/2019, 11:59 PM PST
Last, but not least:
The Nitro games library may be gone but we're never going to stop working to make Discord the best place to hang out and play games with your friends. We want to thank all of the developers who participated in the Nitro games library for sharing a year full of amazing games with us.
Whether you're a legacy subscriber or you just started your subscription today, thank you so much for supporting our growth. We couldn't do what we do without you. There's so much more to come, and we can't wait to share that future with you.
