Hashtag terms are not indexed by search

Searching words prefixed with a hashtag worked for me in app, and on desktop?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    Do normal word searches work?

Could you try something like \#butts, or \'#butts'?  The second option shouldn't work, but who knows.

No dice, it really seems like hashtagged terms are "skipped" by whatever algo in charge of indexing the text... :/

For example, a message containing the term #suggestion would not show up at all when searching for the word "suggestion" (unless it was mentioned twice, once without the # prefix).

Hmmmmmmm.  So, Discord uses '#' as prefixes for their channels & suffixes for user identities, it's possible they're just straight parsing it out of the searches.  Still, your basic elasticsearch attempts should be returning at least 'suggestion' from '#suggestion', or they may be orphaning some user search attempts.  Maybe try a log out => log in, or possibly log out => reinstall app => log in.  Or, try in the web browser.

Just tried all platforms, all of them return the same results. I can reproduce it by creating a new server and typing "#general test" in the general channel. Searching for the word "general" returns no results.

Last ditch effort is creating a new account and trying to search there, or literally a new computer. If general searches still aren’t working, something may be up with your setup?

Tried creating a test account to reproduce it, and I'm still seeing the same behavior:

To me it seems unlikely at this point that it's an issue with my setup since I've been able to reproduce this issue across multiple clients (web, native, two mobile devices), and even across multiple accounts. :/
