Simpler 2FA
A few days ago I woke up to find that my Discord was logged out, upon trying to log back in I discovered that I forgot to turn off 2FA. A few months ago my phone broke which caused me to lose access to my Google Authentication, I was going to turn off 2FA because of it but I guess I forgot to. So I am now logged out and can't find the codes to get back into my account, and the Discord Support couldn't help me because of their policy stating the backup codes were the last way they could identify someone as the owner of the account. (Of course I apparently forgot to get the backup codes so here I am now.) As a result I have lost communication with a lot of great friends who I have met over the years of using that account.
This problem hasn't only happened to me, it has happened to many others as well. They give us the ability to verify our emails and also put our phone numbers in our accounts yet they do not use them for 2FA, if they were to send us codes via email and SMS then I think it would be a lot easier for a lot of people to get into their accounts if they were to lose access to their Google Authentication or Backup Codes. This would prevent a lot more people from getting locked out of their accounts as well as helping people such as myself get back into our lost accounts.
Losing access to a account is tough as it is, but its even tougher when you have great friends on that account that you can't talk to any other way.
