Six Weeks Later, Still Can't Log in, need upvotes
My ISP changes location frequently. Normally Discord sends me a log-in token via email and everything is blue-skies until the next time my ISP messes with the wires. Six weeks ago a change at Discord's end has them requiring a _mobile phone number_ for authentication. I do not have a mobile phone. After several exchanges via email, Support sent me here. What is required is Upvotes. Upvote posts by people locked out by the Mobile Phone Verification hurdle and perhaps Discord will stop making Mobile Phone Verification the only way to go. It's amazing that I can still log in to Feedback. Meanwhile, I'm still getting email notifications from Discord and I see that I have 48 notices or DM's pending with no way to mark them as read or to reply.
Long story short, upvote this post. Thanks.

Thanks. ^_^ Well, I got 8 upvotes, that's the best ever. Still hitting that 'provide smartphone number' wall. No surprise there. I wonder what's the allure of smartphones as security?

I will share the link with my friends in other servers to get more upvotes.

There is a very cogent write-up which also needs upvoting at https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/1500001194821-Discord-now-requires-your-personal-phone-number-to-use-Discord-after-account-is-locked-Something-s-going-on-here-error-

This is so bad. There are many legitimate use cases where people cannot connect their real identities in online chat forums. Discord used to be such a place where such safety was possible. Please don't take that away! This is just atrocious.

Yes, this is quite ridiculous, now there also seems to be a problem that whenever I create a new account, it gets disabled RIGHT AFTER I phone verify it. What the hell?? And I can't even use the phone number on another account for.. 7 days at tops. This is simply ridiculous, and if discord does not support alting, they should definitely remove the account switching feature

I'm also here to state my issues with phone verification.
The unwillingness of Discord, and by extension Discord Support, to allow legitimate users to demonstrate that phone verification is not a feasible solution for the end-user is frustrating.
