Nitro-only increase of character limit is not acceptable

    Character limits are always artificial. However, Discord has made tools to help posting longer messages viable for everyone. If you paste in text that is too long, Discord will automatically tell you "hey, this is over the character limit, do you wanna upload this as a text file instead?", and when you upload a text file, it's content is actually visible in-app in a collapsible embed.

    Plus, it's not like Discord *decreased* the limit for non-Nitro users so that they can give Nitro users the original limit.

    The "make user experience more convenient" thing is mostly as it relates to spam, and people posting way too long messages that make it impossible for one to follow a conversation. Nitro users are given a higher limit because someone who pays is less likely to abuse - period. If you still have a long message to post, upload a text file, or paste it in from a separate editor - Discord will literally go above and beyond to help you post it in a way that everyone else can read it if they so desire.

    The idea that someone needs over 2k characters per message in a standard chat conversation is, quite frankly, ludicrous. But, if for some reason you do need over 2k, or even 4k characters, whatever that reason may be, Discord has tools to make that work.

    It's not a fully functional replacement. Even if we don't talk about the fact that this realization is ugly, It:

    * Breaks markdown

    * Breaks chat search

    * Does not work fine on mobile phones

    * Message becames uneditable

    * Restricts bridging and posting automated messages. Bots also must consider the restrictions.

    etc, etc.

    > Nitro users are given a higher limit because someone who pays is less likely to abuse - period. If you still have a long

    Whether user is trusted or not must be decided by server adminstrator. Period.

    We're using Discord in order to discuss our internal project and new ideas. This makes us hit the limit every time new idea is proposed.

    The limit itself is not a big problem. The problem is, it turned into a way of monetization.

    We are now moving to https://matrix.org. It has literally all the same functions (and even more), but never will be turned into a monetized trash just because it is completely Open-Source.

    The character limit increase is a significant feature enhancement, allowing users to send longer messages in chats and DMs. This can be particularly useful for users who frequently engage in detailed discussions, share lengthy information, or prefer expressing themselves in more elaborate texts.

    However, limiting this feature exclusively to Nitro subscribers raises concerns about accessibility and fairness. Discord has built its reputation as a platform for inclusivity and community, but tying essential features to a premium subscription model could create a sense of division among users.

    For many Discord users, especially those who cannot afford or choose not to subscribe to Nitro, the inability to access the increased character limit feels exclusionary. It essentially restricts certain users from fully participating in conversations or expressing themselves effectively, solely based on their willingness or ability to pay for a premium subscription.
