The New Mobile Layout Update is Bad But Here Is What Discord Can Do
If Discord keeps it so people can switch between the old and new layout there wont be a problem
People who want the old one will keep it and I'm sure there are maybe those who like the update so they can switch. The switching of layouts is a great option which you can currently do. There are a lot of people who don't like the update so changing it wont do any good.
There are people who aren't quite sure what to choose, I personally don't like the update but somewhere there is someone who does so as a company that says “A place that makes it easy to talk every day and hang out more often” enabling the switching of layout is the best thing to do.
Its a win-win for everyone

I second this notion.
Honestly, I know the reaction of everyone including mine is overblown to an extend over this and this might be the best way to keep everyone happy even if it's difficult for Discord to support both. The old UI might not be as supported as the new UI if they do go this route, but it's something. Especially since many old users prefer the accessibility of the old one over the new.

I agree. Forcing this update is terrible. I'm sure it's preferable for someone but I think the old layout is what made the mobile discord so unique and still user-friendly. If people want the new mobile layout then they should have the option to have it, but at this point most of discords users are used to the old version and prefer it.

Yes exactly, a good example for this is the reddit layout, where many users prefer the old layout and use old reddit to browse through reddit and others use the current one.
Discord enabling a switch in layouts will help cater to all users new, old or confused.3
