Make the new interface optional - add an "old interface" toggle in settings
I love some of the new updates you've added. Ability to see messages when offline? Love that. Faster opening and loading times, with more stability? Heck yeah. A custom soundboard sound when you enter a vc? Sign me up! These are some great changes that the community has been asking for for a while!
But the requirement that I change the entire UI in order to access these changes is a dealbreaker for me. It looks like any other generic, essentially meaningless social media app, same as all the rest. It's becoming monolithic with the rest of social media right now - a rounder, softer, “instant messaging” look that I personally can't stand. Discord used to be different, and feel different, and that's what I loved about it. It's why I used it daily, it's why I'd subscribed to nitro for over two years now. I loved the app, how consistent the experience was, and how down to earth and attuned to their userbase the devs were. You're taking that away, why?
You've alienated almost half of your userbase, and for what? “A fresh new look”? A “better mobile experience”? Great, then make it the default, with an opt-out of that UI hidden down in settings. I don't mind looking for it, I just need it to be there.
You're claiming this is for the sake of the users, but it seems very much for the sake of the company. The users are speaking and you're ignoring us. You're following in the footsteps of every other collapsing social media platform. Even in basic business and economics, maintaining the trust you build with your clients (userbase) is the most important part. Without that, you're just another mindless corporation shilling for profit and doomed to fail. The userbase is what gave this platform the popularity and relevance it has, and you're taking that away. You're showing you don't respect or value that, that you feel your clients are something you're entitled to and something you can make decisions for without remotely regarding their input.
As I said, you're following in the footsteps of the collapse of several large social media companies recently. And it threatens the destruction of the very soul and lifeblood of discord, what made this platform special and unique.
Its not weak or cowardly to change it now - it would be showing you respect your userbase and hear their concerns. It would be a step in rebuilding the trust that is a crucial part of any effective business model.

discord really needs to see this…

Totally agree with BornVolcano above
Agree. Please return the UI to before dec'23, or give us the choice between old and new.
I find I am continually swapping back and forth between the two screen displays, and it is hard to detect new posts.
Wastes so much time when I'm trying to use discord in a panic while playing a shooter game.
The old system was way easier to use where everything was on one scrollable screen. Especially since the iPhone App system is different to discord on a PC so “muscle memory” for quick navigation is stuffed up.
Please either return to the old system, or give us users a choice.
Not just my opinion.

Absolutely agree. I posted a topic about thr atrocious new layout as well. I really hope they take this feedback to heart.

Very eloquently said. I 100% agree; changing things back to the way they were would absolutely heal a bit of the rift that Discord has made between it and its alienated userbase.

I just wish discord developers remembered what made an app good. You don’t just design it freely into a complex oblivion, GUI intuitive thought is within the realms of 1-3 clicks for most features. You go beyond that and it gets far too messy, features are crammed into this that now take the simplicity of the old interface, and they clutter it up with incandescent noise. Even my locally ran AI can make a more intuitive interface simpler than this nonsense.
We need the ability to go back to legacy should we need to.1
