My Personal Issues With The New UI 2025
This feedback mainly focuses on the issues I have with the new UI. While I know this may fall on deaf ears, not voicing my opinion is worse than someone not listening. I hope that if you are reading this, you take the time to consider my thoughts.
A lot of people are complaining about the UI change for good reason. It is not just the fact that something we are used to changed, but the unnecessary changes that don't add value to the user experience.
To start off with the list of things that didn't need to be changed we don't have to look very far. Increasing the space of the bar at the top of application to fit the menu you are currently in does not add much. If anything this takes space away from being able to read chats and messages. Another thing that takes usable space away is the updated voice details/user actions in the bottom left while being in a VC. Expanding this menu not only blocks the amount of servers you can see, but it also limits the amount of channels/DMs that you can see. Both of these changes contribute to an overall worse user experience with less functionality on the screen.
Adding on to spacing changes that don't make too much sense, we can look at the server bar. I am not sure why making the server icons smaller was needed. This may have been a move to fit the same or more amount of servers because of the bar added to the top of the screen. I personally feel that making the icons smaller makes them harder to click on at times. It also takes away from seeing the server icon itself. Offering animated server icons as a reward for server boosting but making the icons smaller may make people feel like Discord doesn't care about those rewards anymore. Making server icons smaller mitigates the expression, time, and money people put into having those icons created.
Let's move on to something that is currently not a terrible idea but bad execution. The 3 dots next to names in voice chats is more of an inconvenience right now instead of something that is useful. Whenever you hover over someone in a VC the 3 dots will shift the “status” symbols (Mute, Deafen, Live) of that person to the left. This is annoying as trying to double-click to open a stream can move the icons blocking you from opening it. With the new UI, using double-click to open a stream also feels more inconsistent than before. While these points are negative, there is a positive. This is the menu within the 3 dots. I think this would be a great menu to appear when you right-click a user in VC. Although niche, if “Server Mute”, “Server Deafen”, and “Disconnect” were added, with the rest of the other options being in the “More Options” sub-menu, I think it would just add to the usability of it. I really do think that the new 3 dot menu has good design, it is just the way that you access it that is the issue. Doing the changes above may solve the problem of having a very messy menu when right-clicking a user in VC.

I would like to add a couple things that I did like about the new update. The first would be the new “Jump To Present” buttons. These are a major improvement over the old ones in terms of readability and being in a convenient spot.

I also like the addition of darker themes. It's nice to have more options than just the one grey.
While there is many more issues with the new UI and update, I am not able to write about them all. You don't have to search very far to find people with genuine issues with the new update. People have had issues with accessibility features, Discord Nitro features not working, and Discord just being broken. It is disappointing that the update was released in this state. I want Discord to take time to review how and what went wrong with this release. From the lack of QA testing, to zero acknowledgement that they have released a bug ridden platform, to not asking for feedback from the community directly. I thank you for taking your time to read this and hope change does come.
