Notification Filtering
(This is a response to a tweet I had Made on Nov 19th (ThatCasualCan))
It comes to my attention that there are no options to filter out who can and who cant send notifications.
While busy mode effectively mutes all notifications from going through, and does its job very well, it would be nice to have control over who can send a popup when you get a message from them.
I propose a Client side feature that would give users the option to mute Popups for Different users in the friend list.
There is already a feature for Monitoring what goes through when you aren't friends with users, so that it keeps unwanted users from communicating with you while you are visiting a server, for example.
But there is no option to mute it for Friends. Im not sure if Im making this clear but heres a quick scenario of what I mean. (I tend to either under explain or over explain so here goes)
We have "Friend A" And "Friend B"
- Both Friends, by default, are Flagged so that they can send Popups when the Desired User is on Online, Away or Offline.
- Say that One day, you think that "Friend A" Is disrupting your work.
Normally you could just put yourself on Busy, However Some of us do not have Dual Monitors to manage incoming messages, Or perhaps you are in a full screen game. Either way:
- You put yourself on Busy, muting every message that comes in.
- However, you still need to know what Friend B is doing, so that you can Coordinate properly.
With this feature you could Opt to let Friend B to give you a Sound Notification and / or a Popup, so that you can know when they are trying to contact you.
I do like the idea of the Overlay you all have been working on. However, this would be a great feature for those who would need to filter their Popup feed, so that they don't get interrupted with "Friend A" 's spam, for example.
I have several friends who do this, though not all the time, and Though that this feature would be a great addition to the tools that are already in place.
Note: I wasn't sure where to put this, as far as Topics go.
Let me know what you think. I hope it wasn't too confusing.

I know this may sound very crude, but you could unfriend "Friend A". Combine it with the existing notification feature of not letting non-friends interrupt your work and you have a working solution.

While this is true, and after a little more thinking, Steam already has a system that's familiar to this idea.
Its possible in the settings to disable notification sounds and popups, which are both separate options.
Though unfriending would work just fine, I find it Dishonest in a way. I'm not sure why these options weren't in already, But to each their own I suppose.
It wasn't crude by all means. That thought had come to mind before posting this, so no worries. I don't expect anything from this. I'm only sharing an idea.0
