Stop gif when clicked
Instead of popping out, GIFs should pause when clicked. Especially true for 2-3 frame fast-animated/strobe GIFs. GIFs can cause seizures and headaches, and being able to timely STOP a GIF is a health feature. Most browsers know to stop a GIF when it's clicked, so why should Discord ignore such a common rule and popout the GIF instead?

autoplay options - have it be click to play
stop after cycling 5 times or x seconds would be nice too

Yeah, love how you handle gifs and previews an stuff, except for this, gets very tiring in private chats where the chat doesn't disappear offscreen after 1-2 seconds :p
And what simonoid said as well, auto-pause as well as manual pause/play on click would be GREAT!

This would be super nice for those of us with ADHD. This is a pretty basic accessibility requirement.

for real, it's super annoying to have gifs just rippin' away nonstop
other chat apps have options to collapse or pause gifs
discord, you can do this, I believe in you <3

Apparently, it now exists here: Settings -> accessibility -> disable: automatically play gifs when discord is focused

Wow! That was well hidden. That needs to be turned off by default -_-

there should be an option to completely remove gif from chat...
Animated gif use battery/power, and we really don't need this those days ...
Some of them are really psychedelic, and hurt...0 -

Really, Discord? The ability to not constantly loop gifs is in ACCESSIBILITY? And it's under "Automatically play gifs when Discord is focused"? Frikkin really??0
