Delete phone number from account
If you ever make the mistake of associating a phone number with your Discord account, it is impossible to remove it without either changing it to a different valid phone number under your control or deleting your entire account. Neither of these are acceptable solutions. It should be a simple process for users to completely delete this potentially extremely sensitive information from Discord's servers. This behaviour also obviously doesn't account for any situation where a user stops having a phone number.
I understand that server admins can set the "verification level" to require new members have a valid phone number associated with their account in order to participate, as a heavy-handed anti-spam measure. It's worth informing the user of this via a confirmation dialogue. If they're a member of any servers with this setting enabled without being assigned a role, they should also be informed that they will no longer be able to participate in those servers once they delete their phone number from Discord.

2) So (if ir work well) you can "ENABLE SMS AUTENTICATION" or "CHANGE PHONE NUMBER".

I had an alt account which was linked to the same phone number as my main account. This apparently removed the 2FA verification for my main account which I could no longer sign into. I deleted my alt account and removed the phone number from it but it will not let me connect 2FA to my main account. I am not sure why the phone number cannot be used as there is no longer other account it is connected to, and there is no way for me to access my account it requires a 2FA.
I tried to use some methods mentioned but as I cannot sign into my main account, and my phone number is apparently still signed into on another account the 2FA will not accept my phone number.

I've never seen such a stupid flaw while validating an account. It's not a reliable platform, please switch to another one like mattermost, slack, ... .

i just accidentally associated my phone number with my account and i am seriously considering deleting my account because of this. or just do like cityofember suggests and nope it does not work. not sure if it is because my number was added so recently or what, but when i try to add my phone number to the alt account i am told that "[it] was recently used on a different account" and will not get added to the alt account

The best thing is it doesn't even change it even if I switch between 2 valid phone numbers. It's like engraved on my account now.

I did it exactly and in order for me to even add my phone number I have to first verify my main account, which clearly when I try to use the phone number I get the error
My Sister used my Phone number which really infuriated me when I suddenly got kicked from discord and said "UHOH"
I read in the help section something about a Cool down timer on used phone numbers.
I have no idea how long and WHEN I will ever gain access back to my account.. This is insane.

My Phone number is no longer being used anymore on her account. She used another phone number: Hers I am guessing.

Meanwhile I don't want to use my private phone number on a app, and yet they're forcing me to because suddenly I can no longer log into discord (Says there was a mistake and I need to verify via phone number, and that's the only way)... To say apps nowadays are intrusive is a understatement.

For anyone else it isn't working for, it may be because you set up your number on the undesired account too soon? That's probably the cause of the "recently used on a different account" error. I set my number up on one of my accounts I'd say a few weeks back and just deleted that today with the alt account strategy.
So... unless I'm wrong you gotta wait a bit to delete your number if it isn't working. How long? Who knows. Man, discord really needs to get on this, or at least get rid of that pesky "you can't join this server unless you have a number" verification level!

I will not dignify this trainwreck of a situation with a lenghty explanation. You forced me to give a phone number for arbitrary reasons and now you won't let me change it without entering the loop of your crazyness, juggling fake accounts and what not.
I'm gonna check your GDPR position. This is beyond ridiculous. It's shameful.

This is still an issue and Discord basically acts like this is a "feature".
I have two Discord accounts. One for personal / business use and the other for gaming related activities.
It's an absolute shame that Discord just locks your account if you try to verify both accounts with a phone number.
At the end of the day it all boils down to incompetence. If Discord cared, they'd reply letting me know that they put in a ticket with their developers to have this issue addressed.
Instead they leave all of us in the dust.

I don't remember using a number on any of my accounts, but it won't let me add my number to my main account. I think someone used my number, and I can't use it on my account. I never got a code for any other discord accounts, so I don't know for sure. So if you all want to have the option to remove the phone number from an old account, I'd like to have the option to remove the number from all accounts by having discord send a message to the number, giving the number user the option to click a link that brings them to removing the number from any account it is linked to. This would help out a ton for users like me who might have some "friends" that used our numbers on their account, or for users like me who are just getting some weird bug without a way to fix it.

If you add your number to a new account, it will pull it from the old account it was linked to and lock that account until a new number is added.
This is extremely problematic for people with two accounts but only a single phone number.

@LinkGreen100 I’m in a similar situation. Somehow my phone number is no longer verified on my main (only) account and is instead verified on someone else’s. Support has been the least helpful that human beings could possibly be about it, as well. We really need the option to delete or reverify a phone number from ALL Discord accounts.

guys i know how to fix it you need the phone number of your friends or someone of your familiy you take the number of someone you know paste it in then the number should have a code you copy and paste the code in then you have to type in your password and you should be in your acc

I accidentally used my phone number for an alt account. I was wondering why I still can't use my phone number for my main account after deleting the alt account with the phone number connected to it. I try to add phone number and I get a text saying that the number is already associated with a different account. Its been deleted. I can't even access the alternate account because I deleted it and it shouldn't exist. Why is discord keeping our old accounts even after its been deleted?

can someone help im freaking out so much, discord locked me out of my account because of "suspicious activity" (i was just spam accepting friend requests) and i cant re-enter because it wants me to verify by phone number. my phone number is linked to a random account that i dont remember the login to and it probably has a random email address connected to it that isnt mine. im trying not to cry but someone please help!!

Go to user settings, edit your phone number by changing it to a different one and then verify that phone, then edit it back to your phone on your main account. It's how I got mine back.0 -

I made another account and for verify I dial my number but after that I deleted that account and my phone number was still there I can't add my number on my main account I want to add my phone number on my main account but it's shows first I have to remove from my new id but I forget id and password I want help

I can't even start to say how horrible this is. I and a group of people share a phone number. We are a gaming group and recently one of our members was banned. He was accused of things he never did and racially mistreated by staff but that is another story. But now because he is banned we are unable to join servers that require us to verify by phone. This includes Discord Testers, Tesla, Microsoft, and others. We do not have another phone number to swap this out with and even if I did that would still cost us.

At the moment, my contact number has been stolen and my account has been created immediately. My account has been created and my account has been closed. I have sent emails many times, but you did not receive the correct answer. I was not returned? I burned my SIM card and got a new one, but I realized with disbelief that the account created with my contact number is still open because it does not allow me to enter my number and says that it is not possible for two accounts to use one number at the moment. . I needed to do phone verification to my sub account and since there were no other phones I used the same number and my original account was locked. I went to the support team and they told me to add another number or wait because it's timed out. I've been waiting for 1 month, the timeout still hasn't been lifted and there is no other phone number I can add anyway, I don't even have my phone, I used my mother's phone.
