Silently leave group chats / Hide group dm option

I would love the ability to disable leave and join notifications. We definitely don't need those. It should honestly be the default setting and you can personally choose to turn it on.

I have a lot of group chats. And often this one guy leaves all of them at once and my phone explodes. Please fix.
Also a setting for group chats to disappear after a certain amount of inactivity would be nice.

Please allow me to disable these notifications when others leave a group DM I am in!

As soon as you're using Discord for work stuff, these notifications become very frustrating.

Silent join/leave would be amazing. I use group DMs for more dynamic coordination and the join/leave notifications are insanely disruptive when people mass quit them.

Bumping this big time.
Just cleaned out all of my group DMs for the first time since I started using Discord and couldn't not spam pings and dredge up old messages for everybody else involved. There are multiple ways to resolve this issue, but we need at least one of them9 -

there is nothing more obnoxious than having a >1yr old chat bumped to the top of the list and forcibly reminding everyone of its existence when someone leaves, especially in cases where there may have been unpleasant reasons for people stopping their participation in a chat.
there's nothing more obnoxious than getting dozens of such notifications when someone is cleaning up.
there's nothing more obnoxious and upsetting than feeling forced to keep such group dms in my list as an evergreen reminder of painful past experiences because i don't want my departure to force the other people involved to be reminded.
i honestly don't understand why having a message that says "x left the group" should ever be mandatory in the first place, let alone why it should have to ping everyone in the group. it's as if a group of friends had a falling out, decided to stop showing up to their once-usual joint... and then the owner calls everyone two years later to make sure they all know somebody moved. why?this request has gotten hundreds of upvotes between the different threads requesting it and tweets about it have gotten thousands.
please.

Bump, big time. Group DM's often get left behind after a small little project.
At least, maybe we can hide the group DM's like we hide regular private messages.
Notifying everyone about a single leave is just embarrassing.

also like leaving a gc from years ago and it gets bumped to the top of everyone's dms? yeah no that's terrible, even more, terrible when it's people you don't talk to with anymore or had a bad falling out with. That'll just bring back unneeded problems. If we can leave quietly in servers why can't we do it in group dms?

always feel guilty wanting to purge my group chats because it notifies everyone else and am constantly torn between the need for a minimal, clean sidebar, keeping only the most relevant chats available

Personally I feel like this would be great, since I really like the look of shortened, clean DM sidebar. I agree with about everything everyone else is saying and would like to add that I would like a way to just hide the group chat rather than leave it, just like how the DM's work. This way, if you get messaged, it'll pop right back up again and you can go back to chatting with your friends.

bumping this thread, was added to a gc with like 5 people i don't know and i don't wanna be the person that says nothing then leaves for no reason
