Same-role nickname changing

So, one thing that has always bugged me is that when I give friends a role the same as me, they can't change mine, or other role sharing compatriots' nicknames. And that has annoyed me. And we like to make a lot of jokes and funny humour surrounding names with in-jokes.

And even when given separate roles, it seems that we could only change the names of those lower than our role.
Which just created a hierarchy that, I wasn't a fan of.

    Same here, i can't seem to figure out a fix to this as of yet. It's definitely apart of the fun

    I am glad you agree. It is fun to change peoples nicknames when you wanna have a joke around. In jokes and so forth are usually the best for it.
    Like the time we named our entire server after one person because of a dumb joke.
    It just never seems to work if a role is shared.

    I understand how this might lead to issues with moderation, but I don't understand why this can't be a server setting? For smaller servers and friends this would be nice to be able to do.

    I'm afraid not. My fix for this was using a bot with a high role specific to it, which would rename people when a specific command is entered. It cannot work on the server owner though, as owner is the highest possible role.

    I was already thinking of writing a bot as a potential workaround for this but I wan't sure it would work, thanks for letting me know that it can. Do you know that name of the bot so I can take a look at it. :)

    Actually it is custom-made. The code is quite messy for now, i will try to clean it and put it on github or something.
