Push Notifications on servers with over 2500 users

I don't really get why they disabled mobile push notifications on servers with more than 2500 people. Everyone can decide for themselves if they want to receive it or not. I know that my phone could get bombarded with notifications but this should be users option. Everyone can turn off notifications if they don't like it. Some of us actually care about this.
