Bluetooth audio output not working, in call mode

Is there a way to make my audio output play through "media" instead of call on mobile so I can use my bluetooth earbuds? Currently whenever i'm in a voice channel it works for a little bit and then the audio starts playing out of the phone even though my earbuds are still connected via bluetooth to my phone. It is really annoying so if anyone could give me any advice or preferably a solution to my problem that would be great. My phone is a J7 Crown and it is currently running Android 9 Pie.
