I fully agree, and not only that I think more and more people will use discord if they hear news of the platform becoming open source, a lot of privacy advocates would appreciate this change and many other's among the tech community would love the opportunity that open sourcing has to offer!

    > Openness and transparency in your software (people would be able to verify that what you say it does is exactly what it does. Nothing more. Nothing less. This one is especially huge in the privacy world.)

I’d see it in your source on GitHub  DISCORD!!!

    Your innocence warms my heart.

But I’m afraid it’s perfectly possible to ship one version of your code to GitHub and a different version to the end user.

So no, you won’t find discord's nasty user data collection code anywhere on GitHub.

You might think, if they do that, you will cancel them but how will you know they did?

Or at least open source the Linux client, since it seems that you guys don't give it the same love that you give the Windows and macOS clients. Discord on Linux is extremely unoptimized and buggy, and I'm sure many of the Linux Discord users would love to take a look at the code to release potential optimizations.
