Bug: clicking on videos doesn't play at all,
video thumbnail does load,
video time loads,
clicking through media/video jumps to appropriate time in vid, but pressing play does not work.
possible cause in console:

it's like it all loads fine, but the moment i click play nothing happens, this only happens in the desktop client, watching the same video through discord on website in a Chrome browser plays normally and fine.

go to your hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) and the line
cdn.discordapp.com media.discordapp.net
ez fix

nope.
adding that line, and saving to the host file, and rebooting into discord, didn't fix the media not playing when i press play on it. Still the same video not playing as before.0 -
I have the same issue, the videos are stuck at 0:00/0:00 (both desktop app and browser app), but when I open the media link in my browser it works fine.

houskar_mates , yeah it seems to only work normally through a browser such as google chrome. Since the desktop client for discord seems to be using a bad build of the chromium's proton API.

Okay i faced this same issue. My fix was opening the video/gif in web browser.

I faced this issue many times. My fix usually is to resend the link, but just change the media to cdn and .net to .com.
Ex:
This doesn't work: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/732608978323898378/876702555592355891/untitled.mp4
But after swaping media for cdn and .net to .com it does: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/732608978323898378/876702555592355891/untitled.mp4

Just got this glitch. If this has been happening for years without fix, I'd say it might just not be fixable on the dev's part but I don't work for Discord so I don't really have a say. What might just be best is to just move on from Discord. Maybe I've just lost hope but you can't really blame me.

I have finally found a fix. I usually only use Discord on browser but I downloaded it for my pc and now it works.

This is still apparently an issue. Most of my uploaded videos are about 75mb+ and they all have this issue. Downloading the clip works fine, but who wants to download a file from discord usually? not exactly smart security decision...
Hope this gets fixed,1 -
Same issue, .mp4s on desktop wont play when clicked in the client. Just says 0:00 and displays a thumbnail. Apparently been an issue for 2 years??

I have always had this issue. There has never been a time when videos would play on Discord for me. Today I found a fix... wait for it... I moved the video on one second and it played... :D

Many individuals in South Africa often turn to the SASSA Status Check to monitor their application progress. Whether it's a general SASSA Status or a more specific query like the SASSA Status Check for R350 grants, people rely heavily on these updates. Moreover, for those who face challenges or discrepancies, the SASSA Appeal process becomes crucial. It's essential to stay informed, especially when dealing with financial assistance. The intricacies of SDR SASSA and the various nuances of SASSA SRD further emphasize the importance of understanding and navigating the system effectively.

4 years and they still can't fix the thing they somehow broke (It's electron, chromium basically! How did you even manage to f that up???)
Yeah, and putting that nitro gift on text chat field is SURELY more important, as i have 1000 friends in my chat and also spare $10000, so i send the, gift every time i type!
0:00 for Discord team!1 -
TO THOSE WHO ALL ARE WONDERING FOR YEARS!!!!!!!!
HERES THE SOLUTION!!!!!!!
JUST USE VPN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there an alternative? Not everyone can afford a VPN and I have been having this issue. But not just with videos not playing, but also images are endlessly loading and it's getting quite frustrating.

The reason might be that the Windows Desktop app of Discord does not support HE-AACv2 audio in MP4. HE-AAC (v1) is supported.

I threw the clip into Compressor (online video compressor) with almost lossless quality and it works and if the clip is 50Mb or 130Mb it can be played in the chat, I don't know how to explain it when it's from .mp4 to .mp4.
I've tried different settings, I also have clips I made with an Nvidia graphics card that also work, now I record via AMD and AV1 encoding doesn't work very well, but AVC always works for me (for someone this might be useful) but in general if you put any video into a video Compressor plays normally in the discord chat and you don't need to download anything ( https://www.freeconvert.com/ ), for example, I use this one and I don't change anything in the settings, I just set the target size to 100% and that's it.0 -
Guys, I've found a fix for it. It might not work for everyone. Turn on the "Quality of service high packet priority"
It can be found in the “voice & video” settings. It should fix the images and videos not loading. If not, then not sure what will fix this. I have not experienced the videos and images not loading before my computer got directly connected to the router via ethernet. But after it got plugged into the router, the images would not load and would load “endlessly”. The videos also wouldn't play at all, and if they did play, they would keep freezing. If your computer is plugged directly into the router, make sure this setting is on. This might fix the issue.
