How can I prevent the server members from scammer spam?

Right, this problem has been plaguing discord servers. It's very much a user problem, and not something that they can fix on their end I suppose.

To start of, I believe that the verification bots you're talking about are the captcha/word types. That may be a little drastic to start off with, so have you considered using role reactions to get access to the server? What I see some servers do is place the checkmark at the bottom of the rules, but that would expose everyone to be visible to unverified people too. I would suggest creating a separate channel, where users simply click on a reaction to a short message or type the command before getting a role that hides that channel while opening the rest of the server. If humans can't be bothered to click on at least a reaction emoji then... (speechless)

If you truly still want to push updates to unverified people, you could create another set of announcement channels for all the unverified where you urge them to verify, show them the full channel list, push out the most important updates, etc etc.

Secondly, it's fully okay to take drastic measures at times. Several servers push verification level to highest at the first sign of an influx of DM bots. This may affect your people without roles for an hour or so while you find and track the bots down, but they'll most likely understand when you explain and apologise for the short inconvenience. Lurkers who don't visit that often may not even realise what has happened until it's over. Your regulars won't be affected, as long as they have assigned roles. That may also be something to check for. If you're assigning member roles to everyone who joins the server, server verification level doesn't apply.

Lastly, emphasise open reporting! Let it be known in your rules or information that if a DM bot messages them, they can report it to you folks, and also let them know what information you need. This may allow people to understand that they can get the staff to ban the bots, rather than resorting to leaving.

Hopefully this might give you some ideas about how to proceed to deal with spambots. They're a serious pain. Good luck!

P.S, report those damm spambots to discord too when you have time.

Hey there! If anyone complains to you about this you could either use the verification method or you can just suggest to the users to utilize their privacy and safety settings, they can disable dm's from server members and can also disable server member friend requests. Hope this helps you out!
