"shunt" messages into a new thread

From a moderators perspective, it would be helpful to be able to shunt one or more existing messages into a new or existing thread.

If five people start talking about a thing, I'd like to be able to grab all their messages and place them them into a thread, and let them continue - and there's a chance that there might be a straggler or two that I would then transfer over to the thread.
