Tapping on the screen doesn't stow the keyboard

tapping on the screen used to put away the board so you can scroll in chat. Now when I tap on the screen there is a blank grey space and I have to swipe down to get rid of it. 

Switching channels with the grey space produces the typing area to hover in the screen

On iPhone 6s, IOS 15.5 latest version of the app. restarted my phone, deleted and reinstalled the app nothing happened. Been like this for weeks since the last update,
