The issues with the new Android UI
So I'll get to the point and just say the new Android UI sucks. It looks so awful and works so awful too but here is my detailed reason why and all my issues with it.
Also some people apparently don't have this new update yet, if you are one of the lucky few, don't update it sucks.
1. It looks janky. I can't quite figure out what it is exactly, but the text looks different? Like maybe smaller but it's definitely not a great change.
2. Emotes uses standard Android emotes (Which are just straight up gross) and custom emotes now only show up when you send the message. This is just really ugly and frustrating.
3. If you open the keyboard you can not click on the chat area again to close the keyboard.
It used to be when when you had the keyboard open you could simply click on the new message you received to close the keyboard and read the new message but now you have to click the button next to the home screen and it's just more complicated for no reason.
4. image sharing is now really annoying because compressing the images no longer works!
So I have always had issues sending larger files (such as pictures of 4 mb) on discord because it would always just freeze the upload so I used their Low quality image mode however that now only turns on apparently when you are using a cellular network however when I was testing it it didn't work at all!
5. On do not disturb mode it doesn't prompt you to answer the call. This is a bit of my own opinion but I'm always on do not disturb mode. However in previous versions when someone would call at least it would silently prompt me to answer or ring when I was already on the chat but now it doesn't even prompt me anymore which is a bit annoying and now I miss calls constantly.
6. The join and end call sounds are LOUD! Oh my god I don't know what changed but this is straight up one of my least favorite things of this update. The join and end call sound turned 5 times louder than it usually was and it literally is giving me a headache.
7. The mobile overlay is broken. I always used the mobile overlay, it turned off on it's own after the update and when I turned it back on to use it, the mute buttons were gone. So that makes the overlay kinda broken and pointless.
8. The image sharing now goes over the home buttons and it makes me accidentally hit the home button instead of sending the image. I have an android that does not have a psychical home button so my home button is on the screen however the new update now makes it when you send an image the images now display under the buttons so when you are trying to select an image to send there's a solid chance you hit the home or back buttons...
9. When you open a chat after using a different app if you come back to discord instead of showing chat history instantly like how it's always been it now prompts you for a second or 2 to report your friend for spam! This is absolutely annoying and throws me off and sooner or later I will likely accidentally hit it.
10. Crashes! When I tried to send a screenshot to my friend, it crashed the app!
TLDR the new update sucks. Whoever made it, what were you thinking???
Please have an option to revert these or at least fix the issues above.
If any of you readers have any other issues I didn't mention please let me know so I can be even more disappointed..

Whenever I'm typing a longer message, the message box doesn't scroll to keep showing where I'm typing?? Instead it stops at three lines and then I have to manually scroll to check every single line beyond that. Honestly maddening.

The spacing between channels and categories is weird.
The white notification dot next to servers seems to be removed. Could be because I have notifications turned off but it was still nice knowing if there are messages in some server.
Update on the notification dot: Seems to be caused by the stupid bug with miui dark mode

What annoys me the most is that on my tablet in landscape mode (aka how I use Discord 90% of the time) I can no longer have both the channel list and the member list (left and right swipes, respectively) minimized at the same time. It takes up a significant chunk of the screen and makes everything off-center.
On the other hand it used to be that when I long-pressed a message to open the reply menu, I had to carefully drag the menu itself up from the bottom of the screen where it was hidden behind my navigation bar, and now it pops up about halfway like it should. Not worth it, imo.
ETA: I can no longer add a custom server emoji to my message text by typing :emojinamehere:. It sends as plain text and will not appear in the drop...up... suggestion list of emojis. The only way to send a message with an emoji in it is to tap the face on the right and pick it from the grid. Given how tiny this grid is on mobile, it's kind of a big pain.
However, I do like the search results change. It now has pages instead of being a long list and you can view the context without jumping all the way back to the message. Very handy.

I am one of the three people in existence who actually use light mode and this update got rid of all the contrast between elements in light mode. All the backgrounds of all elements are solid white now, no grays separating stuff like there should be. It looks horrible and is a lot harsher to use and a lot worse for accessibility. It doesn't look like light mode on desktop, it doesn't look like light mode on the old Android version, it's borderline unusable.
Moreover, it looks like an iOS app - not looking like an iOS app on Android was one of Discord's biggest strengths prior to this update. This is the single worst change Discord has ever made in the 6 years I've been using it.

I haven't seen anyone else mention it so I made a ticket about this: they've apparently removed the settings option for emoticons automatically changing to emojis. Now they automatically change and you can't choose to turn that off, the option is no longer there! So annoying! I don't want all my emoticons to be emojis, there's a time and place for both
Edit to add: if you use a bot for sending messages under a different name (popular for role play servers, characters can have their own discord "account" via bots), the message lags to where discord tells you you've got an unopened message and sends you the notification pop up for it, even if you just sent the message and are still in the same channel. Sometimes you have to go out of the channel and back in again to get the message you sent yourself to be marked as read

Disabling image preview no longer works. I tried turning it on and off multiple times, unchecking and rechecking syncing across clients.
Even if the option is enabled, you can still see images that are uploaded directly to discord.0
