Camera should not turn off when screen is locked or when switching apps
This is about the recent Android update on mobile. Before, on video calls the camera would stay on even when switching apps or when the phone is locked. But now, the camera immediately turns off when I do those things.
Is this a feature and not a bug? Will this be “fixed” or is this how Discord is going to work from now on?

I think they change the camera permission from always allow to allow while using the app...

The microphone permission is also "allow while using the app" and that still works, as the app runs in the background. It's a shame, I've messaged support but all I get is automated emails. I hope they fix it.

Yeah this being removed doesn't make sense. Just makes me want to use the app even less.
Is this intended?

This problem isn't on Discord's end. This is a problem with androids permission system. For some reason you can't give permission for discord to have access to you camera all the time. Once again not a problem with discord.

That is false, Yaasianboi. Before the UI update a couple months ago, it was very possible to leave the camera on at all times. It became impossible after the update across a variety of new and old Android versions which is a prime indicator of it not being an issue with the Android permission system.

This functionality still exists with FB Messenger, so it's definitely not locked by Android.

This is a pretty large problem for me. I am often in video calls where everyone needs to switch back and forth between apps and it's EXTREMELY distracting to have people's video turning on and off all of the time. I understand having it default to turning off when you are in other apps for privacy reasons, but there NEEDS to be a way to override this behavior, it's very unprofessional and distracting when people need to access information of do things with other apps.
