I am against discord removing discriminators.
discord is community based, there is no use for unique usernames. changing away from discriminators puts up at least two new issues:
1) it will still be hard to find people since names will have to be longer or changed slightly because they got taken (for example "john" to "jonn", and it gets worse as the username length increases). usernames will become longer. you will still have the problem of two names, which you said is the reason you dont like display name + discriminator.
2) there will be a pretty clear separation between people who were on discord for a long time and those who are new
i also believe that discriminators make discord unique from other platforms andby removing them you remove part of discord's identity

I agree wholeheartedly. Discriminatiors were awesome! Unique usernames generally suck, and changing discord to be more like other apps is a bad idea!

Seriously there is nothing more aggravating than finding out my username was taken by someone who hasn't been active for years. Unique usernames is an outdated practice, why are we going backwards?

LITERALLY going to @ handles would be straight up going backwards. Utter foolishness.
Add your voice and opinion to the main thread as well! https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/14337329256983--Do-NOT-add-The-new-discord-usernames-system

Agreed!

I had the exact same thoughts when I saw the pop-up notice! Discriminators are 🔛🔝! They distinguish Discord apart from other platforms. Discriminators make Discord unique; unique usernames don't. I absolutely and wholeheartedly agree that Discord should not eliminate discriminators. Otherwise, it would just make finding friends much more difficult.
