Voice Chat Sub/Multi/Group Channels
With the increase in asynchronous games, it would be a great feature to have a way of allowing users to have voice channels set up with varying levels of permissions for hearing or speaking to one another through channels.
As an example: Let’s say you have a Main VC, it’s set up to use standard permissions and such - everyone can hear everyone with the chat as normal. A second channel exists for players who have been eliminated, a death chat so to speak. This channel has permissions to hear and speak to everyone within it AND hear from Main VC. If it were set up to be in sub-channels, it could also be a useful permission to have a “visible when speaking” option. Using the previous example: Let’s say you’re playing the game as normal, then you’re eliminated. You want to switch to death chat but you don’t want to alert other players that you’ve died to keep it fair, death chat keeps you within the main voice chat list to those within the main voice chat, but you see an additional grouping that’s the other death chat participants. The Channel list would appear like this by default
-Main Chat-
Alice
Bob
Charlie
Dale
Eddy
And for those in death chat or with view permissions it would appear like so:
-Main Chat-
Bob
Charlie
Dale
>-Death Chat- >
Alice
Eddy
Alternative permissions could be set to allow for voice priority (a teacher’s channel could speak to all study group channels or elevate a presenters’ group channel). Discord Overlay could be color coded for sub channels. A built in DM voice channel could be enabled for quick secret 1on1 chats without leaving or alerting the main group. If a sub grouping VC isn’t as feasible or user friendly, you could also achieve this by having multiple channels with bleed over - An example set up for a game I play could have an option permission panel as a check box table or something like:
[Can Hear] (X marks which channels the channel on that row can hear)
————-M. D. S. I———-
MAIN......X................
DEATH...X...X...........
SPECTATOR. X. X........
IMPOSTER. X..............X
[In List As] (The letter marks which channel the users appear to be in for users of the other channel)
M. D. S. I.
MAIN. M. M. - M
DEATH. M. D. - I
SPECTATOR. M. D. - -
IMPOSTER. M. D. - I
Hopefully my examples all made some amount of sense, but the basic gist is - a way to hear and speak across voice channels would be dope. Extra key binds to speak to specific channels also would be dope
