Being able to leave a channel

We should be able to leave a channel on a server.  Yes, we can silence notifications, but it makes more sense to be able to leave the channel.  Allow an option for an admin to remove a person from a channel as well, without kicking out of the server.  Just allow an admin, or ourselves, to right click on our name and "leave channel".  Simple, yet effective.

    This is already a feature for admins. 

    You can set it so the user can't see the channel. 

    But, it would be good to leave and join channels.

    It would also be confusing for people if they had to join a channel. Especially if they are new to discord.

    That's a good thing for Admins to have, but should an individual be able to choose what they see and control the channels they're on?  What if an admin doesn't want to do that for the user?  They have no choice but to see the channel.  Yes, they can shut off notifications, but they're still there.  Their only options are to leave the whole server, or to remove discord.  It would seem more user friendly to me.

    This is the main thing keeping my friend group from moving from slack to discord. We have SO many channels. Not everyone is in all of them. Usually we have one per game we're playing etc. It would be so annoying to have every single channel visible to everyone. Many won't care about new channels. And they'll have to manually mute every single one they don't care about if we were to switch, and also any time someone makes a new channel. It's just a terrible system for us. We'd LOVE to switch. Discord has many features over slack that we'd like (integrated voice and streaming). But this is a deal breaker for us.

    +1. Technically you can achieve this with role bots, which large Discord servers do, but for a small group of friends, that's quite a hassle when it would really just make sense to be able to choose the channels you are in.

    From everyone that I've talked to, the lack of this feature is the biggest reason people don't switch from Slack to Discord. Discord servers can be super-noisy and the ability to leave channels (and not just mute them) would be really nice. 

    Maybe all Discord needs to do is make the Mute feature hide the channel instead of just graying it out in the sidebar.
