The true reason behind Discord's move for username change
Keep in mind that this is purely speculative. I'm aware I will probably be downvoted for it, but here goes. I saw a post somewhere in the popular thread regarding the username, it was downvoted, but it mentioned an European law that was called Digital Market Act. Being an European, it interested me, so I went to try to look into it.
It's quite vague so anyone who knows laws stuff could help me kindly, thanks! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Markets_Act
I've tried to scour a bit around this kind of law, but it's really hard for me to find such things. It looks like the things that are being done are really behind closed doors, so it unfortunately becomes a kind of 'trust me guys' case when asking for source. There is a part that mentions the interoperability part, which means that they might have set rules of communications. It's possible that the rules also includes which type of usernames are accepted, and the previous one we had is not acceptable by Discord, thus they are moving forward to do that change. That means even if we cancelled nitro we wouldn't be able to stop this from happened. It's literally a forced law.
What's more interesting is that the username change announcement was made the day after the law became applicable / went into effect, so I'm wondering if it's all related or if it's a coincidence.
please keep in mind this is purely speculative. If they did it by greed then I will be really livid about it. I'm trying to understand why they did it, but I barely can understand what they are doing this time...

No, this was debunked on Reddit, though I'm not sure if the moderators there removed the post because they tried to remove every single post addressing the username update.
