Mobile UI just breaks all the time

I didn’t think I’d need to write even more about how much I dislike this UI update (granted my last post about this excluded a lot of gripes I had with it) but it’s just a fact that this app is broken.

Oftentimes the app rotates to landscape view even with orientation locked, and it’s very common for the app to break to the point that it needs to be closed and reopened. If, while in call, it ever does what is pictured below and you think swiping out of it will fix it (much like how it did in the old UI) you’re fresh out of luck because you won’t be able to access the call window again unless you leave and rejoin. This was a non-issue and I don’t know how it’s managed to break this bad. This certain issue also applies to being the poor soul to click on an image to fullscreen it, and it has broken my app a few times already. Note that the screen typically still rotates even when my phone’s orientation is locked.

Note that rotating to landscape view and back to portrait view doesn’t necessarily fix it right away, and it will continue to do this for at least two attempts before fixing itself and not requiring you to leave the call or close the app.

Notifications don’t go away even when I’m looking directly at the channel. I don’t need to see the blue notification bar at the top saying there’s <#> new messages if I’m staring directly into the channel and even interacting with it, and this applies to both servers and DMs. A simple tap into the text channel to view the message quickly has always been a simple and easy way to get rid of a notification, yet this UI forces me to physically click on the X on the blue notification bar to rid myself of the notification mark. Even then, half the time it still appears after every message with an added bonus of the red line saying “NEW MESSAGES” on top no matter if I’m actively engaging with that chat or not.

When I swipe back into the app after being on any other app, it’s become common for discord to need to be closed and reopened or I’ll be stuck on a single window unable to access DMs, servers, my profile, or tap on anything at all. What’s pictured is the only thing I have access to in one case (giving my server mates privacy) and I can only swipe left to this view. I am stuck here and nothing but closing the app will fix it. I can’t even type in this specific text channel I’m confined to. This has happened too many times and it is rather tiring to have to keep closing the app to fix it.

What’s more, closing the app and then immediately reopening it (which I quite literally have to do if I want to text people) often results in the app crashing. I don’t normally experience anything of this nature with any app except discord, but this was a problem I faced even before the UI update. The only reason I wouldn’t have complained about it before was because it was rare that I would even have to close discord in the first place, so I could ignore the slight annoyance and continue on with my day. The update has since more than tripled my need to do this, and it has become extremely infuriating.

There’s so many other issues and it’s getting ridiculous. I have no choice but to accept this interface since I’m being forced to use it, but can it at least not be the most insanity-inducing experience to use? I find it rather inconceivable that everything breaks this badly when the old UI never had issues of this magnitude. It’s frankly embarrassing and infuriating.

I used it, it actually works. Basically, you go in, download 205.15, then you have to uninstall your current discord so that you can download the old one. Little weird, but it does work.

Still yell and scream at support, of course. This is just the short term solution to keep people from having to suffer indefinitely

I'm having the exact same issue!! Ever since the new UI update, I have this strange landspace-portrait mode issues every couple of hours. I'm not even sure what the use of a landscape mode is, since it only works with phone calls and images. Even with rotation lock, this is still a huge issue for me.

I haven't tried Rosedust's solution yet, but I feel like a quick fix to this issue would be for Discord to just remove landscape mode at all. I can't believe this has been a bug ever since the UI's launch.

This has annoyed me to no end for months! I've now gone back to version 205.15. I am far too fed up with having to force close Discord MULTIPLE times every day. This is ridiculous.
