I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to suggest a feature that I believe would greatly enhance the user experience on Discord. Specifically, I would like to request the addition of a "delete chat" option for direct messages.

This feature is available in many other popular apps, and I was quite surprised to find it absent in Discord, given its prominence. The ability to delete an entire chat is crucial for several reasons:

1. **Privacy and Safety:** Currently, it is possible for someone to take screenshots of chats, which can be particularly harmful if the chat contains sensitive or personal information. Additionally, young users who might receive inappropriate messages would greatly benefit from the ability to completely delete these conversations, ensuring their safety and peace of mind.

2. **Control Over Personal Chats:** As it stands, users can only delete their own messages, which can be problematic if they receive unwanted or offensive content from others. The ability to delete entire chats would give users more control over their personal conversations, allowing them to manage their interactions more effectively.

3. **Comparison with Other Platforms:** Apps like Instagram and Messenger already offer features such as deleting entire chats and restricting users. These options allow users to hide conversations and avoid notifications from unwanted contacts. Implementing similar features in Discord would align it with these platforms and meet the needs of many users who are actively searching for such solutions.

While the current option to "close chat" exists, it does not provide the same level of functionality or security. I understand that blocking users is an option, but it does not address the issue of lingering messages that can still be accessed if someone gains unauthorized access to an account.

I believe that restricting the delete chat option to direct messages only (and not to servers or group chats, where only the server owner has control) would strike a good balance. This would prevent potential abuse of the feature in larger community settings while providing individual users with the control they need over their private conversations.
