(For DMs only) I hate whenever I'm messaging someone and they don't respond, so I keep messaging them. But I never know if they're ignoring me or just don't get my message, so I'm always worried if I'm annoying them. I believe if this app/program boasts about being better than Skype, I think it should at least gain some of its better features. Also, all it would be is something like their icon appearing below your, or just everyone's messages, that those people have read.

  This is a really bad idea. This is one of the primary reasons of why I am using Discord and not other chat applications like Messenger (as an example). 

  I don't want people to know whether I've read a message or not.

  By way of contrast, I think it's a very good idea and can be implemented in a way that suits everyone.  how about having the option (if agreed with individuals you are dm-ing with) of turning on the 'seen/read' indicator.
