Discord for Chromebooks
Bring discord to the newest version of Chromebooks please! I really miss discord, and don't like the mobile version much. I can't find any way that works for me to downgrade Chrome, as the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R does not work because I have CloudReady. Please, oh please, do this, I really want to be on Discord more often on my laptop.

Everyone says to use the available versions, but there are a couple of issues I find with it:
- It lacks the right-click functions that are found on the desktop version
- It runs slower than the desktop version, sometimes to the point of it being too laggy
- Users are not able to display what game they're playing
- Android version is not optimized for Chromebooks
- There are less glitches on the desktop version, such as switching between Online and Idle
- Permissions from Google Chrome may screw up Discord's microphone
- New glitches from the updates may occur more frequently than on desktop version
- The site's lack of Chromebook optimization results in some very slow speeds when trying to use text while in a voice or video call
So there's really more than the reason to ask for an app. While some of these problems can easily be ignored, some are quite needed. I personally like having the convenience of being able to display what game I'm playing without having to turn on my computer, but my bigger problem is trying to chat through text while in a voice/video call. Chromebook optimization is needed.

I LIKE THAT IDEA.

What we really want/need (or at least myself) is for the android app to be updated and optimized for Chromebook usage. I've seen plenty of other Android app developers that have optimized their apps for Chromebooks. That really wouldn't be that big of a deal, since they already have the android app. It's not a whole new project.
I personally think this is the easiest and best route for Discord to take on this issue.

I would love to see official Chrome OS support.

My chromebook isnt working. I converted my surface 4 to a chromebook with cloudready, so maybe it’s different. No need to be so rude.

I first read this post when it was new and didnt comment at the time because I had no big issues with the browser version, but for the last month or so, using it in chrome browser is horrible. It gets laggy to the point that my messages arent sent, and i have to open a new tab. this usually takes about 30min or so, but if i search through emotes or join a voice channel, it happens instantly, can not ever send text when in voice and people cant hear me cause im just lagging. have tried everything i can, but chrome browser is screwed for discord. the discord for chrome app doesnt allow mic, so there is really no way for me to talk clearly on discord on my chromebook :(

Pushig this Thread
just purchased a laptop with chrome os cause i was curious but didnt think of the incompabaility with some programs, including Discord. Would love to use it as a normal programm, not in the browser or the "mobile" app that you can install. While using the browser version is the best experience imo it just enables push to talk if the tab is in focus unfortunately and that sucks if you want to talk to your buddies but cant reply quickly because you gotta switch tabs and stuff.. Anybody please recognize this request!

I don't agree with jonnyrock666 and Avery R.
Discord Linux app on Chromebook is sucks.

At this point, using the web client is just annoying and a pointless suggestion. It's too slow, it's still sometimes glitchy, and I can never get it to run smoothly with just TWO TABS OPEN.
We really need an optimized app for Chrome OS ASAP. The sooner, the better because the web client is gradually becoming less reliable with more updates that come.

I am using Lenovo Chromebook Duet, which has an Arm-based processor, meaning it can't run the Linux app. :(. I would really love to see the Play Store app optimized for Chromebooks because I don't like running voice/video chats/calls in a web browser. I guess I have to put up with it now, but I would really love to see Chromebook optimization for the Play Store Discord!

Ah ok. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was mainly speaking to someone else, but I’ll see what I can do with your link.

The browser version doesn't work for me. Literally tried all I could.

This sounds a pretty cool idea, for the moment however, it's possible to use the web app as a workaround 1 -
Second the motion. I use a Chrome tablet on the road for light tasks and would love to be able to use all of Discord's features. The web interface is less than optimal on chrome.

I have seen my friend go on the web app but i can't ask him because i only see him at school (Well i mean i have his account as a friend but he can't talk (for some reason))

The last point you have there is what we're looking for. Something that runs off your Chromebook rather than the web, something that has been optimized for ALL Chromebooks, and something that includes all the features found on the desktop version of Discord.

That's not possible because of how Chromebooks work. 1 -
The Discord in the Chrome Web Store (link below) is a sub-par replacement. Mostly for the fact that it signs you out every time you close it, at least to my experience.

Discord did bring in Custom Statuses, which crosses out one of the requests made here.
However, the web client still lags horribly when in a voice channel, voice call, or video call, despite the region that the call is set to and the bitrate. Changing channels takes longer than usual, and the sound cuts out from the other people and/or your mic cuts out.

I don't know why we're still talking about this. I'm currently seeing more improvements on the web client, including Custom Statuses (which was one of the big requests around here). They're also making the UI a lot more friendly for web client users, such as having an Edit button and such.
> Look, if you can't use the web version, linux app, or android app, just go to the chrome web store and install Discord for Chrome.
They're all 3rd-party, and they simply open the web version on a dedicated window (which can already be done on a Chromebook without downloading the "app").

If you have crostini linux terminal, install the deb version to your chromebook.

Im probably too late for this but if you enable linux and download the linux version of discord on the download options you be able to use the discord client

why do discord send a app out in the play store just for chromebooks /chrome os

" ... Would love to use it as a normal programm, not in the browser ... "
So you're saying *not* a web application? Your options are a web app, an Android app -- and if you have a newer, high-end Chromebook (e.g., i5 and 8GB RAM) -- a desktop GNU/Linux application, via Crostini.
I'm not sure what the status is on audio capture -- I think hardware acceleration works now for some devices? Anyhow, Crostini development seems pretty constant (USB devices, native Files app integration -type stuff keeps getting added). I reckon the Linux app will work swell at some point in the not-too-distant future -- maybe a few tricky things to sort out, what with the fact that you're running GNU/Linux in a container, inside a virtual machine.
Or do you just want them to put way more effort into a super-modern desktop Progressive Web App -- more performance-optimized, prompts you to "install" the app, and all that?

I found this on the Chrome web store:https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/discord-for-chrome/aigfcfiejnjclhfnhlcfcmhedggjipgk
Sadly, it's web based

hey guys... you do know that discord desktop "app" is based off of electron right?
what that means is the desktop client is basically the webclient but in a app with a few more features because node js
electron is basically chrome, dont believe me, look at this image\

if your using cloud-ready download the Linux version and it will open with terminal
0 -
if web doesn't work for you, you can turn on linux emulation and install the linux version

I don't know why everyone says "Use linux version." I've actually used it, and the Linux version on Chromebook is garbage. Desktop notification is not working, so if someone say in server, you can't notice that.

I'm getting a java script error & can only use the website & not the app . WTH. Discord is the easiest way for me to contact my family.
