scroll bar on the server list

Pressing CTRL+ALT and up/down arrows allows navigation of the server list via keyboard alone. I found this by trial and error.

@Intenzi - seems to work, though it shouldn't be necessary - what if you don't have a server with such a channel...

Brain - that doesn't work for me on my laptop. ctrl+alt+down just turns my screen upside down.

Not sure why you'd even need that on a laptop screen? It's part of the intel graphics driver that you can disable via its system tray icon, once you've done that, ctrl+alt+up/down should work in discord.

Dragging around server icons on the list helped me get from bottom of the list to the top, if that is of any help

So far Brain's suggestion the most useful - though as Mr. Badger points out some "features" actually interfere with it depending on your platform.

So this is two "issues" really -

    1. CTRL+ALT and up/down arrows isn't apparent and documentation is very difficult to find.
    2. The list should have a scroll bar or be directly draggable.

Since the channel list has a scroll bar this should be the "easy fix" choice.

Krissen's suggestion works, but rearranging my servers every time I need to move up/down the list is a little lame for such an edgy service.

There is absolutely no reason this shouldn't be a thing, and the fact it continues to not be a thing after months and months of people asking for it and many updates later, is extremely disheartening.

A problem would be the scroll bar being too small and at the very side of the screen.  Someone should design what this will look  like.  It's a good idea!

Yeah, it's a pretty good idea.

It is absolutely ridiculous that people have to ask for such a basic feature which must have been there since beta of Discord.

Even doing the Ctrl + Alt thing doesn't seem to always work for me - seems very tempermental!

    Please add scroll bar, thx

I vouch for this request, we need something as simple as a scroll bar for scrolling through servers!

(Besides, if it already exists for channels, chats, lists, DMs, etc., it's not too much to ask)

@Tech Flashes great! Doesn't help for the app though I think. But, thank you very much for the help. I still hope they put one on the Discord app.

For the love of my sanity, yes please add this! Currently, the only way for me to scroll through servers is to find one with, for instance, an announcements channel that has the "send messages" permission disabled (otherwise I will end up selecting the text entry box with my up/down arrows) and then hitting up or down arrow keys. Not everyone in the world has a scroll wheel, you know? Server folders have helped considerably as I can now group together and collapse some of the servers in my list, but this is still a real and present danger to my sanity. Seriously guys, how hard is adding a scroll wheel, honestly?
in the meantime, maybe there is a way to use the Userscript @Tech Flashes shared in the win32 application? I knew there's a way to access a JavaScript console, so maybe there is a way to run that userscript as a "mod" of sorts? Although, despite my name, I don't know enough about JS to say how exactly, and even if I'm right it might not be feasible to get it to persist after the application restarts.

Please make scrolling through the server list without a mouse a feature! I don't have a mouse since it broke and this has caused such a huge inconvenience for me. I can't really use the trick where you go to a read-only channel and go down since my pc doesn't work that way. Even if I do ctrl + alt + down/up it only flips my screen.

It's so annoying. The ability to scroll through your servers easily is such a simple and necessary thing that it's almost laughable how discord hasn't implemented or reimplemented this feature!

Scrolling without a mouse is already a feature, though the implementation is questionable - hold ctrl-alt and use the up/down arrows.

The rest of us are on about the fact that you can just drag scroll in the mobile app but not the desktop or web client.

    @Mr. Badger

Could you clarify?  Are you referring to the questionable implementation?  You don't find it odd that, probably due to your keyboard or localization settings, the ctrl-alt-down flips your screen (which prompted my "questionable implementation" remark)?  Can you still use ctrl-alt-up to scroll up, or does it turn your kitchen lights on and off?

Ctrl alt up and cursor keys are standard implementation of the Intel display driver. Considering how regularly someone would want to reorient their display, yes it is silly but still no excuse for not being able to scroll the server list properly.

  • vegassparkyrich

Okay, I understand now.  I haven't used anything with Intel graphics hardware in 20 years so I was unaware of the overlap in functionality - which makes the implementation even more questionable.

Another vote for please having a scroll bar. I found another work around on my laptop that is buggy at best cause it doesnt always pick it up correctly. If anyone else wants to try it and see if it works, if you put your curser over the servers list in the discord app , at least on windows 10, and then use 2 fingers witha brisk/fast swipe up or down on your touchpad to scroll up or down. Also seems to work better, if you need to scroll up, put the cursor near the top of the visible server list and swipe down with 2 fingers. Go to bottom of list and swipe up with 2 fingers to scroll down the list. The middle of the list seems like a crap shoot and seems like you gotta give it a good fast swipe to make it scroll at all. if I go slow, doesnt seem to pick it up at all or ignores the swipe.it seems to work but not well.  In essence, looks like you need a 2 finger swipe instead of single finger swipe. If this isnt working for you, you would also want to make sure you have a mutlitouch capable touchpad and that multitouch is enabled in your touchpad settings. in Windows 10, go to startmenu>settings>devices>touchpad>additional settings>settings>  At this point you should be in the synaptics control panel. If you dont have synaptics drivers, not sure how it looks for you but if you dohave synaptics which i think is the majority of laptops, Make sure scrolling is checked and have a look at the scrolling tab to see the settings there as well. Can anyone else verify that working for them? On a side note, the 2 finger swipe seems to work on webpages  as well to scroll up and down, score!. i feel less totally screwed without a mouse now.

+1 for scrollbar on server list, PLEASE!!!  This used to exist!  Also, control-tab used to SCROLL the list when it hopped between servers, but it DOES NOT any longer.  control-alt-up/down sends me to different workspaces (Ubuntu Linux) so that's useless for me.  I don't have a mouse with a scroll wheel, because the only mouse that does not give me wrist problems doesn't have one.

There are very, VERY few things I actually NEED a scroll wheel for on my computer. I can get along just fine without one. But when I get DMs in a lot of threads at once, it pushes my servers down off the bottom of the clickable area (and I have enough servers that I have to expand/collapse groups just to get at some of them to begin with). How hard can it really be to implement a scroll bar for the server list?

Yes, I am aware of the ability to scroll between servers with CTRL+ALT+Up/Down, but sometimes I need to get to a *specific* server quickly, and scrolling through all of them in that manner is not helpful. Plus, as numerous people have stated before me, that shortcut *does not work* on some systems due to overlapping with OS functionality, and it is not at all easy to discover in the first place.

You mean add a scroll bar for servers?

You should've added most of your question/suggestion in the description for it. Can agree with TTG about it being unclear, should've left it at "Put a scroll button/bar for servers."

Seconded though, this can be useful for people. I think keeping it thin, like they do with messages, would be best.

  • ugh, they still haven't added it! this is getting annoying!'

I honestly have the same issue. It is so frustrating to get a ping from a server that you have it in a folder and you need to scroll to get there by holding a server in order to scroll down.

    WE NEEED THIS.

Is it possible that discord haven't noticed this request because it's in the wrong category? It's in the section for "overlay" which is the popup which comes up while playing a game if you hit a hotkey.

I think it needs to be moved to chat section for better visibility.

Either way the silence from the developers is deafening and disheartening.

Why are important feature requests being ignored???

I managed to work around this by configuring multi touch on my pad so that holding down two buttons scrolls. This doesn't fix it for everyone though, so this needs addressing!

I just found out that you can scroll on laptop without a trackpad or mouse; you click the server at the top or bottom of your list's view, then press the arrow keys whilst keeping your cursor on the server list. Hope this helps.

I tried to do what you described in a couple of ways and neither works. Not really sure what you mean.

@Mr. Badger - It works for me check this - when I clicked the server at the top of my server list and then the down arrow key, nothing happened. However, when I clicked the last server visible in the server list (at the bottom) and then hit the down arrow key, my server list started scrolling. It didn't scroll when I first clicked the server at the top of the list because I was trying to scroll down. When you want to scroll back up you will need to click the server at the top of the server list view.

I also was able to do it without keeping the mouse pointer hovering on the server list while performing the above.

Oh and BTW, my keyboard that goes with my Surface Pro 3 does allow me to scroll web pages, etc when using two fingers. However, for the Discord server list I still have to click the server at the very top of my view or the very bottom and then i'm able to use two fingers to scroll the server list like I would with a mouse wheel.

Another thing someone could do is create server folders as outlined here https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360030853132-Server-Folders-101 and create enough server folders so you never have to scroll the server list but instead just click the folders and then access the server you want.

Hope this helps everyone. They should simply add a scroll bar to the server list. After all, the scroll bars that are already in the app are the smallest in existence.
