So, right now, unless you fully give up your Discord Identity, there is no way to remove personal information from a DM or Server unless you can use a Bot with moderation privilegues if you have to do so in bulk.
Discord claims that they cannot do so due to not wanting to break up the context of discussions, either.
However, as I am a citizen in an EU country, I would like to have the option to make use of my 'right to forget', especially since Discord both does business in the EU, and has servers in the EU.
If Discord doesn't offer a 'mass deletion' option, a user controlled limited version of their 'anonymization' process undertaken when you delete your whole Discord identity might be the solution.
This should be available both when kicked + banned from a Server (the server still retains the ban information, so you wouldn't be able to rejoin. In case of a ban, maybe even make the process automatic.), and when leaving a server on your own.
The reason the issue came up with me was that I had been in a gaming community on Discord, when, one day, one of the Moderators openly promoted and advertized an RMT website that both traded in Game Currency and 'Exchange Rate/Regional Pricing' trickery for Itemshop purchases for the game that the Discord was about. When bringing this issue up with the creator of said Discord server, the answer I got was pretty much alongside of 'Unless the Game Creators do not act against those advertizing 'Content Clearing' services ingame, with a 'DiscordID#xyzx' contact as the only means to reach them, I will not protect the Itemshop of the game, teeheehee!'
Basically, the leader of the server supports RMT in a game where RMT is being actively fought as long as the proof can be gained with serverlogs sourced by a GM from the games' own servers (to prevent manipulation of the 'proof'), and so does at least 1 moderator.
I wanted to break up all direct contact with the server, through deleting my posts. I managed to do so later on, through 3500 messages, but that was a tedious act. Breaking a bunch of discussions in the meantime, most likely.
With a solution like a 'localized' anonymization (maybe if done by hand, it also bans the account that used that feature from that server, to prevent rejoining and stirring up drama, so that the feature can't repeatedly be abused for that), one would be able to both satisfy Discord's wish to maintain discussions, but also the human right to not be traced for eternity. For legal reasons, the whole thing might even be a limited anonymization, so that the residents of a given server are the only ones unable to access any of the data, but Discord themselves would retain the information about 'Who posted this.', in case of illegal content.
