Use the iPad app as the new basis for Discord on Apple Silicon Macs
Later this year (2020), Apple is supposed to be shipping the first Macs with their in house CPUs, based on the SOCs found on iOS devices. One of their highlights is the ability to natively run iOS applications from the app store.
I suggest depreciating the Electron.JS based macOS app in favor of tweaking the iPadOS app to support traditional inputs found on a Mac.

I hope this will not happen lol

yeah same, discord mobile sucks more than the desktop version. The service of discord is really really nice, but the electron app is terrible, and the iPad app is based on electron as well lol.
I personally use the web version unless I need to screen share

Isn't the web version just the electron version without the OS-native features and less performance?

the electron app is mostly just a wrapper for the web version iirc, but for me the web version has better performance, especially with VC

Yeah that's basically what electron does. Except that the app can access OS-native interfaces using electron. You can't really do that from inside a browser.
In theory performance for things like voice & video streaming should be better using the electron version. That's also my experience.

so, M1 macbooks are out now, how does it perform? Or Discord removed their ios app from the Mac App store? Does rosetta 2 runs the desktop one?

It should work fine using Rosetta like most things, but electron can already compile to ARM, so it's just a matter of how fast discord updates their custom libs and ships the new executables.

The iPad app is not based on electron. It uses react native, software that produces native apps. I believe the cause of your performance problems is the hardware in which you're running it. I would love a macOS Discord app based on Discord Mobile.

It performs well, but is very energy inefficient.
