Discord on Apple M1 Devices
完了Discord doesn't seem to work natively on the new ARM-Macs and only with Rosetta 2 Translation at the expense of performance, features and power usage. It would be really nice if Apple Silicon Users could enjoy Discord on the new Laptops and Desktops as well.

Native Apple Silicon is a must. Discord under Rosetta 2 has pretty abysmal performance and just sucks down energy. Come on Discord, Rosetta 2 is a crutch to give devs like you time to build these new apps, please let your user base know if you're doing it or not. I'd rather migrate to a different platform now than try to scramble last minute from poor support.

They're waiting for their application's update to Electron 13, which is on the PTR, to be stable
Not electron itself

Arguably Electron is already a crutch, Rosetta is life support. Starting to wish there was a viable alternative.

I have no experience in using Electron for app development but what makes it so bad? Instability? Windows' version of Discord ran completely fine in my opinion and I assume that it uses electron?

NATIVE M1 SUPPORT IS NEEDED!
2 -
Would really like to see SOMETHING from Discord on native support for M1. Whilst it does run on Rosetta, performance is sub-par at best.
1 -
Still no updates or ETA from Discord regarding apple M1 support !

+1 from me, it works but relying on Rosetta 2 isn't supposed to be norm. Apple silicon is the future for macOS, so going to have to happen sooner or later. Preferably sooner, it's currently the most resource-intensive app I'm using because of going through Rosetta, just going to use the web version for now.
1 -
I'll wait one, maybe two more months before I just stop using it.
2 -
this really is getting absurd.

As an electron developer myself, I can understand that it isn't as simple as upgrading the major version (current to 11) and then rebuilding the application. There are a myriad of API deprecations alone in electron major version bumps.
On top of that, they would also need to upgrade the nodejs version they use because each electron version requires a different node version, which could also have huge implications on the other dependencies they're using. Then test, and make sure it works on all the platforms it distributes Discord to (Linux, Windows, Intel Macs and Arm Macs)
Regardless of the undertaking, it is frustrating that Discord is failing to communicate about this crucial topic. At the very least Discord, please communicate to set some expectations, or simply communicate to us to not have any expectations.

It wasn't posted directly to this topic, but on Reddit, and shared to this topic. They're already in progress of updating to Electron 13, but the app itself isn't stable enough under Electron 13 to be really usable. And that was several weeks ago. Maybe keep prodding? Not like it will make them finish any faster, though.

The issue here is communication, the absolute lack of it is infuriating to everyone. The should just write a blog post explaining the efforts and if they think this is valuable enough to deliver. This silence is not helpful.

I agree. It would be great if someone actually gave official word of the status, something, anything. It sucks that all we've gotten is one employee's unofficial response, buried deep within a Reddit topic, referenced either directly or indirectly here or elsewhere.

I've posted on here before but I'd just like to reiterate how insane it is that we don't even have an M1 build on Canary/PTC. You either sacrifice features through a web app or you lose battery life and performance with the Rosetta 2 build. Please give us a verbal update Discord.

Another month, another month of silence. I don't even care that it's not available yet at this point, I just want some sort of answer. Any answer.

NATIVE M1 SUPPORT IS NEEDED, PLEASS!!!!
2 -
please prioritize this

Teams, Element.io, Signal, Slack, Telegram... all have NATIVE Apple Silicon versions. What is taking so long Discord?
4 -
Disgraceful. I guess making a new icon and coming up with new ways to rip people off is more important.
3 -
+1 LilaQ It really is disgraceful at this point...
I know it probably means nothing, but I've cancelled Nitro and put in m1 arm support missing as reason for cancellation.

danielktdoranie Off-topic but where is the native version for Teams available?
1 -
TheArmKing I read it like 3 times in this thread, but actually afaik there sadly is none 😐

we really need it y'all...

+1 for Apple Silicon support
I'm sure Discord isn't slacking when it comes to this and I'm sure there are valid reasons this hasn't been resolved yet. Although I think we'd all appreciate a little update on what's going on here.
Afaik Discord is a pretty cutting edge company when it comes to technology, and I've loved to read your technical updates whenever I've come across them. Like the migration of some component from Go to Rust. So I'm sure whatever the holdup is, you've got a good reason.
I also know that you care about your users/customers and I'm sure you're aware that Discord under Rosetta is leaking a lot of memory. M1 Macs don't generally have a lot of memory (even 16GB isn't much these days) and it's frustrating when any one application hogs all of the available resources, it's certainly not very user friendly.
So take your time, we know that there's always more than meets the eye when it comes to application complexity, but it's the not knowing that gets us.

No, don't you dare take your time. Get cracking already, everybody else has done it months ago!
And just ignoring the 3rd most active thread just shows much you give a damn about the actual users.0 -
Really hoping to see official support for ARM chips get added - the share of people utilizing this type of architecture is only going to get bigger

Really need that ARM native app. :(

Right now, Discord on Safari works ten times better than the Discord app. Mostly with regards to performance (Discord app tanks my Air's performance). I like having a separate app, but having just another Safari window is better for me right now.
I appreciate you keeping the Safari version going strong. Looking forward to getting an Apple Silicon version of your app.
