You might be interested in this in the meantime, if the discord developers are incapable of doing it. Here you go:
https://github.com/17hoehbr/Discord-M1. Discord as arm-native app. Have fun!

vinci No. Already shared this and this IS not working AS expected. Screenshare and some others stuff aren't working because of some electron's issues.

Oh, thanks for letting me know. I haven't read all the comments, although I've subscribed to the thread, so I must have missed it. (I cannot reference your name with @. There are a hundred Pikachus, but no one had your avatar:) )

It's really not good enough that it's taking this long for Discord to support this architecture, especially because, as others have said, Apple Silicon is the future of Apple hardware – the number of users will only continue to grow.

We need more communication from the Discord team regarding this.

I'm here to say: we need the app for m1!

I wonder where the refusal actually stems from. Is it really so difficult to do it given that there is an IOS app already (so same cpu) and, of course, an intel-based desktop app? It can't be that hard.

But I find it mind-blowing that the discord developers are completely quiet.

Honestly this is a just becoming a big slap in the face to the Mac (and Mac users) in general. Others have already pointed this out, but Rosetta 2 is not a permanent solution, and developers should plan for it being removed from macOS (sooner, rather than later.)

I honestly don't understand why they don't (at the bare minimum) allow M1 Mac users to install the iOS app, without any kind of support provided/guaranteed. This kind of blatant disregard/hostility towards Mac users makes me want to cancel my Nitro service.

Spotify already has M1 version. Discord now enforce me to log on each time I open browser, they try to push people into their Rosetta2 app. Discord is unable to deliver proper M1 application, i'm getting tired of them.

    @hawanagila

I use discord all the time on my browser (for the same reason), but insinuating this crap (that discord is forcing people use the app by logging them out) is actually as annoying as the fact that they refuse to develop an m1-version. This type of misinformation isn't helping anybody.

@vinci Discord had changed their web application, so it doesn't persist a session. This is nothing else than pushing their users to use their native app, which as this moment for Macbook users is just crappy Rosetta2 version.

I use the web version and I simply never quit safari, so I have avoided having to log in over and over. I am so exhausted waiting for a native version, though.

I'm also here to vote for the native M1 version!

I'm an M1 MacBook Air user, and I've been using discord on it for many months now. It's working fine for me, but it's CONSTANTLY in my "Using Significant Energy" section and it's really annoying. Discord hasn't shown any sign of making a native version so far, and I'm frankly quite pissed at them for it. Come on Discord!

If you're a Nitro subscriber, I would suggest that you speak with your wallet and cancel the subscription; at least until M1 support is added. When you cancel, choose Other for reason why you're cancelling and you will be able to give lack of M1 support as your reasoning.

Yup, did exactly that. Nitro cancelled.

Yes please. It's been so long since the M1 devices were released and we're yet to receive the native discord app. This is frankly unacceptable for a company like discord. They could at least tell us if they've started the development for the M1 chip. I might just shift to discord's competitors if they fail to accomplish this task. Other apps have already launched native support for the M1.

I can't believe it's 8 months since the thread is posted and it's already more than a year since Apple shipped M1 developer's kit.

We still don't have Discord running natively on M1 devices.

It's crazy that discord still hasn't released a native M1 app yet! It uses so much memory compared to similar apps that are optimised.

To be fair, the updated version of Electron on Canary (which is required for M1) support is unstable and has issues. HOWEVER, even if it's still unstable, they could still release an M1 version of the Canary builds. At least then you're giving people an option.

And as many people here have cited, the lack of communication is infuriating.

The need for a native M1 version is almost inevitable.
I mean, using Rosetta works, but it feels noticeably slower than on my old 2012 Macbook Pro..
Plus battery life is more than important for me since I use Discord all the time during the day.

I mean, someday they kinda have to port it when X86 is no longer supported by apple.
same as they got rid of PowerPC support with 10.7 Lion they might get rid of Rosetta 2 with 11.3 or so

+1 for native support. Discord on my macbook air m1 feels less responsive than other laptops I've used. Also, Discord is used for much more than games now so their mac user-base has probably been growing quite fast for the past year and probably will continue to grow. Discord, you don't wanna give a bad first impression to people using discord for the first time on their macbooks, do you?

The latest stable version of Discord on macOS is already using Electron v13. Yet, it is still x86_64 only :(

Imagine this company figured to use Elixir on the backend stack. But yet they managed their tech team so badly, that even well after a year they still are unable to compile their software to Apple silicon. It's hilarious.
