In the past 1-2 days there was a fairly large update to the Android client it seems. I am also part of the Beta however, so it may be just a beta update at the moment, but due to Google's desire to slowly remove all features from those paying for their Gmail accounts, I can't send feedback through the play store as you normally would as a beta tester.
Anyway, many things have slightly changed. I'm thrilled to see long-press menu for marking servers as read be back for instance. One change, if memory serves me right, is a clear degradation as it has happened before and was rapidly reverted when reported.
Basically on Android every notification was showing the users icon for whomever sent a given message, making it easy to identify who said what if you're just casually reading your notifications here and there. With this update though, it somehow got changed to the style of notification where the users icon is completely replaced by a random color circle with the first letter of the users name in it.
Last time this happened it may have been A B testing, so I'm not even sure the thread in thinking of was posted here cause I couldn't find anything with a quick search. In any case, seeing a big S or A in place of someone's profile picture in discord is a huge downgrade for how recognizable our friends become by their given profile pictures.
