Prevent a blockee from seeing your messages

First of all, this is not about the "# Blocked Messages" message.

I wanted to see first-hand what the effect of blocking someone would look like from the blockee's point-of-view. It turns out that they can still see all of the text you post to a server, despite being blocked.

Why can't blocking someone work both ways: 1) Blocking them prevents me from seeing anything they post, and 2) Being blocked prevents them from seeing any messages with that account.

Obviously it would be impossible to prevent alt-accounts from seeing messages. So the ONLY way to prevent someone from reading messages is to kick/ban them from the server entirely, which I feel like is a nuclear option. There isn't any in-between.

  Doesn't that take away anonymity? If someone blocks someone, they may not want people to know that they blocked them.
