  To keep any obnoxious people who still want to ping by default happy ... make this an OPTION.

  I keep on getting pinged in conversations where the person could have just plain typed a reply, but they insist on quoting me, and hardly ever think to toggle the ping OFF.

  I don't need a ping for every such message, I'm already going to pay attention when activity is shown in the channel.
