Registration requirements

Hi,

Thanks for making Discord.  I'd like to get to know it.  I've given my birthday login credentials.  I'd prefer to keep my phone private before getting to know each other a little better, and to end a chain of questions of uncertain length.  If someone wants to help me understand why Discord should know my number and aything unasked, I'm all ears.
