Ability to disable Clyde chat AI in Group DMs
The new AI chatbot Clyde presents many users with privacy concerns and feelings of unease. It currently may be disabled in servers, but not group DMs. This is uncomfortable for many users.
As stated in the the official article, the chatbot does the following:
- Read all recent messages in group DM.
- Access user profile information.
- Information is stored by OpenAI.
- Require users to follow OpenAI's usage policies.
Users are not made aware of ANY of the above points before using Clyde, most notably, they do not agree to, nor are shown, the OpenAI usage policies.
This information may only be found in an obscure article. If you try to ask Clyde itself, it provides responses of varying incorrectness, attesting that they are true until it is called out upon the fact.
In the situation of a group DM, many users may not be comfortable with any of the above points and not consent to them. Despite this, other users are able to interact with the bot, which jeopardises all of users privacy within the group.
Many Discord group DMs are closely knit and personal, discussing very personal or private matters. Nobody wants this data to then be stored on third party servers without them being made aware of the fact, because the bot considers it a "recent message".
These privacy concerns are clearly genuine, as there is an option to disable the chatbot within actual servers. Therefore, this option should be present for group DM channels.
