The new mobile layout is ugly and extremely confusing.
It's also extremely slow to figure out and use because you can't swipe anywhere anymore. I know there's the option to turn it off for now but how long until it's permanently forced onto us? If that happens, I'll cancel my Nitro altogether.

it is so impractical it's ridiculous. i do not like this trend of making the mobile app vastly different from the desktop app. keep it uniform, make it easier for everyone involved. discord is once again straying further and further away from accessibility.

To disable the new layout:
Press on "you" in the lower right, then the options-cog-wheel in the top right, then appearance and then disable "show new layout".
however there are some reports from some users that this option is missing… so I would assume they are gonna force it soon. May want to disable auto-updating your app / revert to an older one if you are Android.

Thank you, i found it while doing testing. Took 4 tries to act ally turn it off though simce the app crashed the first 3 tries. I have now concluded that multiple buttons simply does not work (add server and recent), old DMs are showing up in the recent tab, timestamps for said DMs are all over the place, you sometime get notifs for muted servers and sometimes none for DMs. All bugs that will probably get fixed aside almost all the new “features” makes the experience worse, less intuitive and laggy (lag likely from the fact that it preloads and displays messages for every chat, regardless if it's muted or not. The only feature i liked was the swipe up for chat while in a voice channel.

I think you are able to disable the message-pre-load by setting it to “compact” which still wastes space and shows less than the old UI does.
Which is one of my two big issues with the new UI - it's wasting space and time. especially time.
Switching between two conversation in two different servers. Even worse if you have organized your servers in folders. In the old UI you just swipe right, open the folder (once, if it's not already open - since they do stay open!), open the server and swipe left.
In the new UI you have to swipe right, swipe up (if it's not the last 4 or so servers), open the folder (every time), open the server, find the channel and click on that. it's annoying to say the least. especially in servers with lots of channels.
Getting to the user-list of a channel for e.g. moderation purposes.
Swiping often not working correctly / clunky.
it's “flashy”… that's about it. I will stay on an old, clean, sleak and simple version of the client for as long as possible.

My opinion exactly. I am however on the new UI for now since im having fun reading old messages with mr “deleted user#0000”. Also noticed the filter search works very poorly if you try to use the search string, but the new filter button is quite nice and works better than the old way

not sure what you mean with filter button?
and yeah I have read search is fairly broken on the new UI…

If you go in to search (in chats) it now has a filter button. Especially the before/during/after search function works way better now and is much easier to navigate, with a slider each for day/month/year
On another note you can fully turn of preloads in the settings, or set it to only be for unread chats

that doesn't seem to be available on my end (Antroid 14, Pixel 7 Pro) - search still looks the same as it did before.

It has moved like this and if you click any date one the UI is different for them compared to before. (I belive i also have android 14, MIUI 14 at least)

not on my end. so probably A/B testing.

I was very relieved to find the option to go back to the old UI.
I only have a small screen on an SGS10 and everything is just too large with the new UI, it's annoying to lose the quick button that slides the menu in from the right to get the per-channel user list up. The font can be shrunk but it has little to no effect on the spacing around the text, perhaps that's limited by the icon sizes but then I can't see a way to scale those.
Hiding the chat completely by putting everything else into full screen panes is generally disorienting, it's just better when you can pull them in a little from the left or right as little or as much as you wish, then it's so much easier to get back to where you were.

So glad I still have the ability to switch back to the old one. The new one is confusing to me whereas the old is very intuitive how it fans out from the left. I couldn't figure out the rhythm of the new app and it just felt like multiple overzoomed popups that made no sense and were not well organized to me.

It's completely useless.. It's ugly, waaaaay to big, total waste of space! Please please please, never ever force this to everyone! It's really a bad idea!

really really hate how the server list and channel lists take over the whole screen. i already switched back, but not looking forward to this being forced onto users if thats the plan.

They have removed the option to keep the old UI from the latest build, so now I cannot update Discord. What a truly terrible decision.
The “New Mobile App Updates & Layout” announcement is currently on negative 670.2 -
