Swipe to reply / New UI

Why aren't both of these elements optional? Swipe to reply is completely unneeded, I much rather be able to see all online members with a swipe. The new UI is pretty bad, why isn't there an option to turn it off? This seems completely forced, and it's not what the community wants, fix it.
