Option to ignore other people's activity

Sometimes, you just really don't care what people are playing or whether certain people are online or not. You still want to have them as friends, but you really don't want to be up in their business or you don't want your app to be cluttered with friends' activities. For me, it's just stressful to look at what other people are doing all the time, when I'm just in the mood for messaging certain people. I have seen this recommendation several times on this forum over the years, and it seems it would really be a quality of life to many people. Thanks :)
