"Override lower roles" setting for permissions REPOST

I saw this post 4-6 years ago, multiple times, and it was never implemented.
 

In permissions, roles above should be able to override roles below (i always thought this was default it seems intuitive) at the users discussion. If roles give picture permissions, or extra vc permissions, I want to be able to use certain roles to take those permissions away from bad actors. Or, at the very least, a mute role that doesn't take a few hoops to function, because the ability to use bots as well as discord's native timeout tool is pretty useful.

As things are now, however, there is no way to enact this form of moderation because roles that TAKE AWAY PERMISSIONS, just… don't do that?
